Hypnotherapy - Panic Attacks & Fear

We are born with two fears, that of falling and that of loud noises, everything else is a learned behavior.

Any fear you have learned can be unlearned. Using sensitive brain imaging devices, doctors have identified parts of the brain involved in panic and anxiety.

One of these is the amygdala, an almond-shaped structure in the temporal lobe. Another is the locus coeruleus, a very small structure in the brain stem that contains adrenaline and sends it around to other parts of the brain. These two parts comprise in the main our natural 'alarm system ' alerting us to danger.

Some phobia's can occur following accidents and our subconscious quite understandably 'helps' us by avoiding those situations in the future.

Many people who experience phobia's and panic attacks have vivid imaginations and sensitive 'alarms systems' which can be set off unnecessarily by the amygdala and adrenaline. This is where hypnotherapy can be used to your advantage.

During hypnosis the feared situation or stimulus is desensitized by experiencing it over and over in a relaxed and calm state of mind. In just a few hypnotherapy sessions dramatic improvements in outlook and control over thoughts can be made.

An understanding of the physical process and the use of breathing techniques can further help people in dealing with the fear symptons. Avoidance techniques serve to deepen any fears or phobia's and ultimately make them more difficult to deal with.

Some common fears and phobia's include

Fear of public speaking,
Fear of heights,
Fear of flying,
Social phobia,
Enclosed spaces,
Open spaces,
Snakes, Spiders, etc.

The list is potentially endless and limited only by the capacity of our imaginations.
