Hypnosis Health

Hypnosis and its effects on health. So how does hypnotherapy alter and influence your behaviour for the benefit of your physical and mental health?

During hypnosis you are particularly focussed or absorbed, just like a daydream. In this state of 'entrancement' our imaginations and emotions are heightened.

If you imagine a traumatic event and picture it clearly and vividly you will quickly begin to feel physical changes in your body. Stop for a second and do this now, imagine seeing a fight on the street. What happens in your breathing, your pulse?

What you are experiencing is increased adrenaline and heightened anxiety and stress levels a perfectly natural self-defence mechanism. So if you can increase your levels of anxiety and stress levels upwards just by using your imagination then it follows logically that they can be reduced by stress management in hypnosis.

What we imagine and tell ourselves in our heads (our inner dialogue) has a great influence over our chances of success in any endeavour, health related or otherwise.

During hypnotherapy the conscious 'critical' part of the mind becomes deeply relaxed and pre-agreed positive suggestions are more readily accepted by our subconscious mind.

The subconscious controls our hormonal and nervous systems, long-term memory, habits, emotions, and imagination.

Suggestions that are not acceptable to a subject will be rejected immediately and full consciousness restored. 'Suggestions' refer to issues such as weight loss, stress management, anxiety reduction, stop smoking and so on.

There is a common misconception that the hypnotist controls a 'subject'. This is incorrect and in effect all hypnosis is self-hypnosis. The hypnotherapist merely acts as a guide or facilitator.

In today's hectic society and over stretched health care system, hypnosis is a safe and effective alternative to pharmaceuticals. It is becoming increasingly more accepted, researched and respected.
